If you don’t happen to live in Stoke Newington, a visit to Esters is likely to arouse serious envy for those fortunate enough to have such a brilliant little coffee shop on their doorstep. Standing on the site formerly occupied by café Fred & Fran, new owners Nia and Jack have created a sanctum where everyone is welcome, from coffee geeks to mums.

The food is outstanding (try the Middle Eastern-style eggs) and coffee geeks will be delighted with the carefully prepared Has Bean coffee pulled through a La Marzocco Linea. They also offer two (yes, two!) different filter coffees on Chemex, ground using Mahlkönig’s golden child EK-43 grinder. Esters raises the bar for neighbourhood cafés, make sure you pay them a visit.
