From Bean to Glass: The Ultimate 45-Minute Coffee Masterclass at Brew School
Have you ever tasted a cup of coffee so good it stopped you in your tracks, and wondered, “How can I make this at home?” At this year’s Brew School, we aren't just giving you the answer - we are putting the exact tools you need right into your hands.
We’ve partnered with the absolute best in the business - Origin Coffee, Wilfa, Comandante, and Hario - to create a fully guided, 45-minute sensory journey. Led by Origin Coffee’s elite Accredited Specialty Trainers (ASTs), this is a hands-on masterclass in origin, processing, precision brewing, and because it’s a festival, a little bit of mixology, powered by Brewed by Hand.
Here is exactly what you can expect when you step up to the brew bar:
Phase 1: The Foundation & The Tasting Flight
Great coffee isn't a happy accident; it’s the result of careful farming, processing, and roasting. Your AST guide will kick off the session by demystifying the journey from farm to cup.
To help you understand how different origins and processing methods impact flavour, you’ll be guided through a tasting flight of three distinct Origin coffees. To give us a flawless, consistent baseline for tasting, your trainers will batch-brew these using Wilfa’s precision equipment, including the Zense Coffee Maker, the Performance Thermo, and their industry-leading Uniform Evo Grinder.
The Tasting Menu:
- The Chocolate Profile: Beija Flor – This incredible Natural-processed Brazilian coffee is proudly produced entirely by women. Expect a deeply comforting and complex cup bursting with notes of apricot, roasted hazelnut, and smooth milk chocolate.
- The Caramel Profile: Santa Barbara – A beautifully balanced Washed Colombian coffee. Dive into its rich, creamy body, perfectly highlighted by sweet plum and toasted almond.
- The Fruity Profile: Umalila – For those who love a vibrant, juicy cup, this Washed Tanzanian coffee will absolutely blow you away with bright raspberry, sweet blood orange, and a lingering honey finish.

Phase 2: Take the Reins (Brewing by Hand)
Once you’ve tasted the baseline, it’s time to choose your absolute favourite bean from the flight. Your mission? To replicate and even improve upon that cup by brewing it entirely by hand.
You’ll start by feeling the tactile perfection of German engineering, hand-grinding your chosen beans with Comandante’s exclusive Lab Series Grinders. You'll get hands-on with the legendary C40 MK4 lineup - including the Tigershark, Hammerhead, and Nitro Blade - which are built with specialized burr geometries to deliver lab-grade particle distribution and absolute flavour clarity.
Then, you'll step up to the Hario brew bar, where the real magic happens. We’re bringing some of Hario's most exciting, innovative gear for you to play with, allowing you to really tailor the brew to your taste:
- The Polaris Coffee Scale: This isn't just a scale; it’s your brewing co-pilot. The brand new Polaris features a live Brew % guide right on the display. It tells you exactly where you are in your pouring ratio in real-time, taking the mental math out of your morning routine so you can just focus on the pour.
- The Neo Brewer: Want to bring out the bright, punchy notes of that Umalila coffee? You'll love the Neo Brewer. It’s designed specifically for a faster flow rate, which is incredible for highlighting clean, vibrant, and crisp flavour profiles.
- The Switch Base: If you want total control, this is it. By pairing your V60 with the Switch Immersion Base, you can seamlessly toggle between immersion and percolation brewing. It allows you to manage the flow, extend the bloom phase, and completely control the extraction time to pull out massive sweetness and body from coffees like the Beija Flor.
You'll be pouring with the classic V60 Buono Drip Kettles, learning exactly how water speed and agitation change what ends up in your cup.
Phase 3: The Filter Cocktail Climax
You didn't think we'd send you off without a celebration, did you?
To cap off the 45-minute masterclass, we’ll show you how to take the beautiful filter coffee you just brewed by hand and transform it into a spectacular cocktail. We'll be mixing your fresh brew with the rich, cold-brew notes of Conker Coffee Liqueur and the crisp, vibrant agave profile of The Lost Explorer Blanco Tequila.
This combination creates a bright, complex, and utterly delicious filter-based cocktail with a beautifully smooth, earthy kick. It’s the perfect way to toast to your new barista skills.
