Awards Categories

The judging process is robust and vigorous to ensure that the awards represent the views of the entire industry. Some categories will be judged by an expert judging panel who will create a shortlist ahead of the consumer and trade voting, whereas the other categories will be judged purely through public voting. 

THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES WERE JUDGED USING A COMBINATION OF EXPERT JUDGES & CONSUMER/TRADE VOTING:

Voted for by industry experts and consumers, the Best Independent Coffee Shop of the Year award goes to a specific coffee shop, that is part of a wider estate that has less than five sites, that stands out from the competition and excels across many key areas, such as shop sales, food offering, design, sustainability and community involvement.

Voted for by industry experts and consumers, the Best Sustainable Coffee Shop of the Year award goes to a specific coffee shop that is driving the sustainability agenda and making a real impact, whether that be through energy efficiency, product packaging, produce sourcing or food waste management.

Voted for by industry experts and consumers, the Best Community Coffee Shop of the Year award goes to a specific coffee shop that is going above and beyond to serve its local community. This could be through charity engagement, sports team sponsorship, hosted events, food bank engagement and more.

Voted for by industry experts and consumers, the Best New Coffee Shop of the Year awards goes to a specific coffee shop that has either opened in the last year (September 2023 – September 2024) or has undergone a significant refit. This shop will excel across many aspects, including sustainability, overall offering and café design.

Voted for by industry experts and consumers, the Café Design of the Year award goes to a specific coffee shop that has designed its café in a unique way that not only attracts footfall, but also provides the best experience for its consumers.

NEW FOR 2026! Shortlisted by industry experts, with the winner voted for live at The London Coffee Festival 2026, this brand-new category celebrates creativity in coffee packaging. This accolade will honour a roaster whose bag design stands out for its originality, visual appeal and innovation.

THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES WERE JUDGED USING CONSUMER/TRADE VOTING ONLY:

Voted for by consumers, the Best Multiple Coffee Operator of the Year (10-50 sites) goes to the coffee shop brand, that operates between 10 to 50 sites in London, that, in the eyes of those that matter most – consumers, has the best offering.

Voted for by consumers, the Best Multiple Coffee Operator of the Year (50+ sites) goes to the coffee shop brand, that operates more than 50 sites in London, that, in the eyes of those that matter most – consumers, has the best offering.

Voted for by the trade, the Influencer of the Year award goes to an influencer who creates coffee related content, connects with their audience, gives a voice to the industry and inspires others.
